STAN CHELNEY

Stan Chelney has more than 20 years’ experience representing clients in a broad range of complex commercial litigation in federal and state courts, as well as before U.S. and international arbitration panels. Mr. Chelney has extensive first-chair experience on matters involving claims of breach of contract, fraud, various business torts, breach of fiduciary duties, malpractice and professional negligence claims, lender liability, securities claims, and constitutional law.

Mr. Chelney has also led internal investigations involving allegations under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, alleged violations of the Dodd-Frank Act, insider trading claims, and numerous claims of financial and securities fraud. He has handled matters pending before the SEC, DOJ, FINRA, FERC, and the Court of International Trade.

Mr. Chelney represents clients in numerous industries, including financial services, real estate, energy, sports, construction, insurance, accounting, health care, and telecommunications. Mr. Chelney’s extensive pro bono matters range from representation of a death row inmate in a habeas corpus appeal in Alabama to securing Section 8 benefits for Russian immigrants residing in New York City.

Before founding Chelney Law Group PLLC, Mr. Chelney was a litigation partner at Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe LLP and Bracewell LLP. He also served as an associate in the New York offices of Shearman & Sterling LLP and Dewey Ballantine LLP. Mr. Chelney received his J.D. from Duke Law School in 1999 and B.A. in Economics and Government, International Relations from Cornell University in 1996.
